Hecuba, the Queen of Troy, regains consciousness and finds her city in ruins, her family dead and learns she is to become a slave to a barbaric Greek general. The other Trojan women wait anxiously for their fate to be delivered. But is Hecuba really Queen? Or is it all just a twisted fantasy while they wait for their virus to take its toll? 

 

Final year Theatre/Media students at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst  staged Euripides’ The Trojan Women in a radical adaptation that saw the Greek tragedy thrust into the modern age. This production was a reimagining of the original play  set in a quarantine zone where contagious, sick women are heavily guarded and contained.

This version of The Trojan Women is adapted from Euripides’ original text by director Adam Deusien, with final year Theatre/Media student Nina Oyama. work takes the classic Greek tragedy to new heights in this site specific and immersive theatre experience, which reveals a harrowing look at bureaucracy, loss and femininity across both the modern and ancient worlds.
